From tree felling to a fully prepared bat, the process is long and requires patience. Trees are split into logs, yielding around 40 clefts per tree, which are initially air-dried to reach about 55% moisture. At this stage, wax is applied to both ends, and air drying continues until the clefts reach 25% moisture. Only then can heat be gradually applied, drying them further until they reach the ideal 12% moisture, making them ready for shaping. We have contractors across the UK, with active sites in Nottingham, Chelmsford, and Sheffield.
